Madonna assays the title role in Alan Parker's ambitious filmed version of the brief, amazing life of former Argentine first lady Eva Peron. Presented entirely in song, and narrated by Antonio Banderas as a fictional Everyman, the film charts the alternately revered and reviled Evita's rise from poverty to become a film and radio actress, her relationship with President Juan Peron, and her tragic death from cancer at age 33.

內容講述南美少女Evita，如何從一藉藉無名的人，搖身一變而為在政治界極具影響力的貝隆夫人。本片開場時，導演用了甚玄妙的手法，把兩個喪禮交替的剪接──Evita幼年時父親的喪禮，及她自己的喪禮，均出現在觀眾眼前。由於此片是以歌劇型式演譯，因而有很大的自由度去加強全片的戲劇性；此外對白全是以歌曲唱出更增添了不少高潮，好讓每一句對白都能扣人心絃。
